animals
we animals have so many similar traits, that sometimes i am shocked and amazed at people who treat other animals with disrespect. i can understand hunting or fishing for food. but when it comes to doing it for sport, it kills me. i think it's totally wrong. what makes us so big and important that taking another life becomes entertainment for us?we say it's inhumane to treat other animals badly, but really.. maybe it is humane. meaning, it's human nature. it's our nature to hunt and destroy and to kill anything that threatens our position. yes, perhaps it's very humane indeed.
poor us. we just don't get it.
cat doesn't eat all of her food on days we're both gone. i'm assuming she sleeps the day away. because when one or both of us are home, she'll clean out the bowl. i am wondering if she eats because she's bored or content.
holly, our dog we had to put down, would eat anything anytime anywhere. she just liked to eat. she would eat up her food during the day while we were gone. maybe she ate because she was upset.
me? if i'm busy i'll forget to eat. and if i'm upset i don't want to eat. i guess i'm a content eater. sometimes i'll eat if i'm bored.
cat's more like me, then. i wonder who holly took after. probably her first owners.
i had a dog while i was in high school named midnight. one day, we found a stray dog and brought her home with us until we could locate her owner. midnight was very upset. he probably thought we were keeping her and that we didn't love him anymore. we would come home from school and find midnight laying in the middle of the dirt road that led to our house and then down to the lake. it's like he was waiting for someone to run him over and end his life, the life that had become so wretched since he wasn't loved anymore.
we'd call him and get him to come to the house and we'd shower love on him. but as soon as we were done, he'd wander back out to the road.
once the stray dog's owner came and got her several days later, midnight went right back to being the perky woods dog that he was.
i always think of that whenever someone tries to tell me that animals don't really have emotions. i believe they do. complex ones. midnight was jealous and hurt and thought we didn't love him anymore. he had given up. acted suicidal.
they're so individual just like us. they have different motivators, different behaviors, different characters. they feel, they love, they hurt, they experience joy and depression just like we do. the few differences i've seen thus far are..
they don't have opposable thumbs
they haven't developed speech like we have, although a mutual understanding can be met
they love unconditionally
